Tell Halif (Arabic Tell el-Khuweiliefeh) is located next to Kibbutz Lahav about 10 mile NNE of Beer Sheva. The 7 acre mound sits where the Shephelah and Judean Hills meet the northern Negev Desert. Its numerous occupations begin in the Early Bronze Age (ca. 3500 BCE) and continue through the Roman Byzantine Period (ca. 400 CE.). The mound preserves the remains of several fortified cities that were destroyed in conflagrations, most notably ca. 2400 BCE. The latter of these is likely associated with the Assyrian King Sennacherib during his Third campaign against Hezekiah, the king of Juda.
