Exploding Blowgun Dart (Bird Bomb)

Exploding Blowgun Dart (Bird Bomb)

thingiverse

This is an exploding .40 Caliber blow gun dart that explodes on contact with something hard such as brick, asphalt or wood. It is designed to be a humane way to control your backyard pests weather it be birds, squirrels, cats, or that dog that is leaving the cute coily piles in your lawn. It uses a 209 shot shell primer and a standard .177 caliber BB nested in the nose cone. Once the dart is shot at something hard, KAPOW!!! All your backyard pests turn tail! After the smoke clears you are rewarded with a peaceful and quiet back yard. All PLA plastic parts are shredded to pieces during its use and will biodegrade leaving no cleanup. Also included is a non-exploding "inert" dart for target practice! CAUTION: These exploding darts are very loud! Please enjoy with care and consideration for your neighbors and surrounding property. Thingiverse and I DISCLAIM any liability for any damages which may occur during the making and use of these darts. Please follow all local laws and noise ordinances in your area and as always use common sense. Don't give the 3D printing community a bad name! Instructions Things to purchase: Type 209 shot shell primers (found at your local outdoors shop where reloading supplies are sold) A box of 100 is about $3.50-$4.00 .177 caliber BB's (sold by the hundreds at any outdoors shop or wal-mart) Instructions: Print (1) of each: Body, retaining ring, and either the Flat point (seems to give more consistent detonations) or round nose cone. Printing Profile: Layer Height: 0.2mm Number of shells: 1 Infill: 25% Slide retaining ring around the primer Drop BB into the nose cone (it should drop right in and touch the bottom of the recessed hole) Snap the primer and retaining ring onto the nose cone (flash hole of the primer is on opposite side of the BB) the retaining ring should be flush with the back side of the nose cone. There will be play in the primer and retaining ring, this is normal. With the primer pulled out as far as it will go the BB will not fall out of the recessed hole. Slide the nose cone assembly onto the body (it should slide easily but be a snug friction fit). Once assembled it is ready to fire! Caution: Do NOT force the nose cone assembly on the dart body! Extreme pressure on the primer may cause it to go off in your hand! A loose fit can always be solved with glue and is better than a tight one. Once assembled be VERY careful no to drop! To fire hold your .40 cal blowgun at an angle and carefully slide the dart down the muzzle (cone facing toward the muzzle) until it is resting on the mouth piece. If you wish you may also slide the mouth piece of your blowgun off, insert the dart (cone facing toward the muzzle), and replace the mouth piece. FIRE! Stand a minimum of 20 feet from your target. Shoot the dart at something hard i.e.: concrete, asphalt, brick or wood. NEVER NEVER NEVER shoot the dart at any person or anything you do not wish to harm! Be sure to shoot the dart at the highest velocity you can. Too slow of a velocity may result in a undetonated primer. If this happens wait 30 seconds and approach the unexploded dart with caution. If dart is still intact and dry you may attempt to shoot the dart again. If plastic is broken discard the plastic responsibly and you may carefully reuse the primer if it has not been in contact with moisture or oil. CAUTION: These darts may damage and/or discolor surface where impacted. Exploding dart may throw plastic and/or metal projectiles back at shooter! ALWAYS stay a minimum of 20 feet from your target when shooting and ALWAYS wear eye protection! Remember you can only lose your eye sight once! Enjoy responsibly and ALWAYS use common sense!
