External FDD Enclosure (Universal)

External FDD Enclosure (Universal)

thingiverse

This is a brand-new version of my external FDD enclosures designed for popular home computers like the Amstrad CPC and ZX Spectrum. As always, each part is precision-engineered to fit together perfectly. The rear of the bottom enclosure features two carefully placed holes that accommodate 6mm diameter switches. These switches allow users to select between floppy drive units A or B and choose the desired floppy side - either A or B. Additionally, an 8mm diameter hole is provided for the power connector of the floppy drive unit. When the two parts are closed with the backside facing downwards, a deliberate gap of 1mm in thickness is created at the rear. This strategic design element ensures that the 34-pin cable can be easily routed out without any issues. This innovative new design enables both parts to be printed without the need for supports. Furthermore, it achieves this goal while minimizing material usage, resulting in a stronger overall structure.
