I'd spent a lot of time trying to get my e-steps right, after enough I made this tool.

You put a bowden/reverse bowden in one end, and feed the printer from the other (you could just as well put it in a bowden feed to the extruder).

To use the tool, use a fine pen to mark the filament in the first window. Feed a known distance (10mm starting out, 50 for fine tuning) and see where the mark stops.

If you feed "10" mm, and you're one window too far, your extrusion multiplier is 20% too high. (2mm/mark, 10+2 = 12)

If you feed 50 and you're a half mark too low, you are 1/50th or 2% too low.

In the picture I show a 4% error (2mm/50mm).

You can get away with leaving this in the printer's feed permanently, though there can be a little drag. The screw hole will let you hang it from the printer - I leave mine mounted most of the time, and just run the filament through it when I need to cal.

Custom Section

Post your makes!

And if anyone knows what I was thinking with M Div 1.6 W, let me know, cause I forgot!
Category: 3D Printing Tests
