Plagued by all manner of problems mechanical, hydraulic, powerplant related and aerodynamic, the Chance Vought F7U Cutlass looked like a million bucks, even if it didn’t fly like it. The -1 version especially looked like Buck Rodgers had arrived promptly in 1948, the date of her first flight. Left behind by rapidly advancing technology and hamstrung by a dismal safety record, the Cutlass was beached and retired by 1955.
