FABtotum Dispensing Head v1
grabcad
This custom dispensing head, developed for the FABtotum machine (http://www.fabtotum.com), is demonstrated in a video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sfShcG9ttyo) that shows solder paste dispensing on a PCB. The example PCB is an FTDI circuit, designed with KiCad and milled using FABtotum and FlatCAM. A 20G 0.6mm ID 1.5'' dispensing needle is used to dispense diluted solder paste with IPA. The head is 3D printed with FABtotum, using CAD files adapted from TwinTeeth for the TwinTeeth machine. Electronics consist of an Arduino Nano v3 with custom firmware controlling a 28BYJ-48-5V step motor and a ULN2003 driver. The rpt2pnp CAM software was also adapted to fit FABtotum's needs. Find all necessary files (CAD, Arduino firmware, and CAM software) by clicking the download button, and remember to print the HDB support for FABtotum. Follow these steps for assembly, buying parts, loading firmware, connecting components, generating dispensing commands, diluting solder paste, and executing the dispensing process. The modified parts from TwinTeeth have a Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial 4.0 International License, while the modified rpt2pnp code is licensed under GNU General Public License v3.0. Future improvements include optimizing the dispensing head design and building a pick and place head for FABtotum machines.
