Fan Duct for Lulzbot Dual Extruder v3
thingiverse
I experienced issues with heat creep while using PLA with my Dual Extruder v3 setup. The stock fan/heatsink combination was woefully inadequate due to its low CFM rating and airflow direction, which created turbulence and hindered cooling performance. To alleviate this problem, I designed a custom heatsink duct that has worked flawlessly so far. It's worth noting that the duct does sit relatively close to the heat break on the extruder, resulting in some melting during printing, but fortunately, this hasn't impacted the duct's or extruder's performance. I'd love to see others experiment with higher temperature filaments or modify my design to suit their needs. However, a solution was urgently needed to address this critical issue. To upgrade the stock fan/heatsink combo, I replaced the original fan wires and installed a high-performance Noctua fan with a 20mm x 40mm footprint. The slots on the heatsink are designed to accommodate M3 nuts and either 15 or 25mm bolts, depending on the specific fan model chosen.
