Fan duct with swivel mount and adjustable nozzle (parametric); MakerFarm i3v Print Cooler
thingiverse
This fan features an adjustable design that includes a swivel mount with customizable settings. A custom-designed fan is secured to a mounting plate using independently adjustable parameters. A sleek funnel extends from the plate, and can be lengthened or widened by modifying specified settings. An arched nozzle forms at the end of the funnel, and its dimensions can also be fine-tuned. To enhance airflow, one axis of the nozzle can be flared, resulting in a more oval-shaped exit opening. However, certain combinations of parameters will result in an invalid configuration. This fan was initially conceived as a print cooler that could attach to existing mounts on a MakerFarm i3v 3D printer equipped with a Hexagon head. The original fan remains in place, and multiple settings for this design allow it to be attached via either the lower or top fan holes. Save the .jscad file, open it at http://openjscad.org, and experiment with varying parameter values until finding an optimal configuration. Browse the accompanying screenshots for illustration of potential uses for the parametric fan. They provide examples for fans with diameters of 25mm and 40mm. The attached STL files showcase three-dimensional models generated using a corresponding named screenshot in .jscad format. Among key parameters to adjust is the 'Expansion multiplier for nozzle axis.' It enables customizable flaring on one axis, effectively scaling up or down the nozzle's end diameter by an amount specified in this value. To disable flaring entirely, set this parameter to 0. Any number greater than 0 scales and adds 1 to the final nozzle diameter; consequently, a multiplier of .5 yields a one-axis flare with an extra 150% size beyond that of the standard nozzle end. For STL generation accuracy, tweaking the 'resolution' value fine-tunes the smoothness level of curvatures rendered. Setting it to around 8 for initial tests works reasonably well but, if intended as final prints, opt for values ranging from 20 to 30 for higher fidelity output.
