Fantasy Flight Miniatures Bases

Fantasy Flight Miniatures Bases

thingiverse

This is a custom made set of bases for Fantasy Flight Miniature compatible games (ex: X-Wing Miniatures, or Star Trek Attack Wing). These bases are intended to be a compatible replacement for the originals. They should accept standard pegs, as well as the custom pegs I've also included here. Files There are several files here, but they all follow a convention. First, anything with _exact on the end of it was made to the precise dimensions of the original bases, as measured by my calipers, (rounded to the nearest sane number). These are intended for ultra precise printers, like a DLP/SLA printer (aka "resin" printer), or Shapeways. If you're printing it yourself, you probably don't want these versions. Next, anything with large_ are for the large style bases (Bobba Fett, Lambda Shuttle, Millennium Falcon, etc.) and anything with small_ is for the small bases. (This includes the pegs for the bases, they're prefixed as well.) Now, we have the pegs. Any with _compat are attempts to make the pegs compatible with the stock bases. (This is tricky, and I haven't gotten it perfect.) Any with _solid are designed to be used with the small_ or large_ bases. If there is an _alt in the name, this is a special variant that I've made to hold on the outside of the peg, not the inside. This is both easier to print, and work with broken model pegs. Confused? Don't want to think about the options? Well, then just grab small_base.stl and small_long_peg_solid.stl and give those a shot. Changes: 7/2/18 Added a "compat" version of the large peg. Updated dimensions on the small peg's insert, as they were off be a small amount. Added an experimental grouped set of pegs that should be easier to print. 7/1/18 Added an "exact" version of the base for printers with really high precision (SLA/DLP printers to be exact). Still needs to be tweaked. Added an "alt" long peg, that is easier to print. Instead of going in the hole, it fits around the outside of the hole. As a bonus, this works on models with broken peg holes, too. Added new large base models! These are untested (but will be tested soon.) 6/14/15 Added a recreated long peg, compatible with the FF models. Has improved grip in the small base, easier to print. 5/18/15 I recreated the base from scratch in Inventor, since Fusion 360 was getting pretty limited for me. Front notches no longer extend to the edge, allowing the template to be placed on either side. This is to help maneuvering with ships in close proximity to each other. Deeper center hole for original peg. (Fits very well, now) Improved grip on squadron markers. Print Settings Printer: Kossel Mini Rafts: No Supports: No Resolution: 0.2 Infill: 25% Notes: Printing the pegs still eludes me. The best option, I feel, will be fore me to make some breakable supports and put up a model of four or six of them at a time. The bases print super easily with no trouble at all. (Though, watch for warping on the large base, if you print with ABS or HIPS.) How I Designed This I used Autodesk Inventor, and took the best measurements I could from my actual models.
