Venera Kirilenko is an Olympic figure skater of Russian-Kazakh origin. Having grown up in the rural far east of Russia during the twilight years of the Soviet Union, she spent her youth skating on the frozen over lakes of the siberian taiga. The eventual discovery of her skating and choreographic talent soon brought young Venera to the forefront of Russian sporting life. Despite the years of hard and rigorous training that followed, Venera’s origins in independent and self-taught ice skating stills shows through, with her style retaining its vibrant and improvisational characcter.
