FeMo-cofactor from Nitrogenase

FeMo-cofactor from Nitrogenase

thingiverse

This is a model of one of the most complicated metal clusters known in biology. I am preparing this and other cofactors and protein 3D Models. The supports are meant to help in the printing of the model, and are meant to break off easily once the model is completed. This includes a histidine and cysteine ligand Instructions The FeMo-cofactor has been printed several times now, with very nice results. I print it with a raft, so it may be separated easily from the base. It does not need any supports, as I have added the supports in tinkercad. I have included pictures of the completed model following painting to represent the different atoms in this complex cofactor (Molybdenum in Purple, Iron in Green, Sulfur in Yellow). It turned out very nice. Nitrogenase is nature's answer to converting atmospheric nitrogen gas into ammonia, and the FeMo-cofactor is the active site in this impressive enzyme. The coordinates for the cofactor were taken from pdb file 1MIN.
