It was one of the heaviest armored vehicles to see combat during the war. The Elefant was armed with an 88 mm Pak 43/2 L/71 gun, one of the most powerful tank guns of the time. It was mounted in a heavily armored, fixed casemate, which provided excellent frontal protection but limited its field of fire. The vehicle was designed for long-range engagements and was intended to be used as a tank destroyer rather than an offensive tank. *The Elefant made its combat debut during the Battle of Kursk in 1943, where it faced off against Soviet tanks. While it had impressive firepower and armor, it faced challenges due to its limited mobility, vulnerable sides and rear, and mechanical reliability issues. After the Battle of Kursk, many Elefants were modified and improved, leading to the development of the more well-known Ferdinand tank destroyer. *Despite its limitations, the Elefant contributed to the development of tank destroyer doctrine and represented a formidable armored vehicle on the Eastern Front during World War II.
