Fern Iteration

Fern Iteration

thingiverse

This is an iterated function system that is loosely based on the branches of a fern. In OpenSCAD, the leaf shape is formed from a polygon that has been linearly extruded and rounded using the offset function. Rectangular prisms of various angles were then subtracted to form the slits of the leaf. The top leaf (n=0) has a vertical stem piece which is not similar to any other case. The n=1 case, under and to the left of n=0, is what each other branch piece (n>1) is based on. Branch(n) takes branch(n-1), scales it up in the x and y directions by a factor of 1.1, and reflects it across a vertical axis.
