Figure Jacent to Queen Mary of Cyprus
myminifactory
This reclining sculpture is all that remains of the tomb of Queen Mary of Cyprus, the second wife of Jaime 2 of Catalunya-Aragon. According to a document of 1323, the funeral monument was made by Juan de Tournai, in collaboration with Jacques de France. The queen is adorned with the humble Franciscan habit, but touched with the crown, which must have been decorated with colored crystals, now lost, as precious stones. In his hands he holds a scepter, probably of metal, also partly lost.
