Filament Dry Box with Heater

Filament Dry Box with Heater

thingiverse

As previously mentioned in my Filament Dryer box (www.thingiverse.com/thing:4608440), this is basically the same but with an additional heating unit. Modifications to the original: 1. Height has being increased by about 40mm, to accommodate the heating unit. 2. Joins between the casing has been increased by 1mm for better assembly and sealing. 3. Improved EndCap. Tested with a few bowden tubes for better fitting. 4. The Top cover bowden tube connector has been mod to 11mm dia to better fit the quick-fit connector. 5. Heater unit is separately printed, this is to help ease of assembly but need to anchored down using UHU glue. I have also included a STEP file (complete) for those who wants to modify the design. The casing was printed with PLA, the heating unit with PETG. The parts required: 1. 12Vdc 4020 Fan, This fan is to circulate the heated air within the casing. It must always be on when the heater is used. I wired this fan directly to the 12VDC input. 2. 75x75x1mm copper plate used as heating plate. You can use other sizes or aluminum but mounting holes are 65mm apart designed for 3mm screws. 3. Digital Thermostat, model KT3003 12V purchased from Aliexpress. I set this to 70C max and placed the thermocouple directly in contact with (under) the heating plate. And wired the switch relay contacts to the heater. 4. 63x14mm 12V 10W Polyimide heating film. It comes with self adhesive and a maximum heating at 80C (with no load). 5. DC input socket, (7.5mm diameter hole in the casing). 6. mini LCD Digital Thermometer Hydrometer, round 41mm diameter. 7. 4 nos bearing 22x8mm. I usually clean off the heavy grease and re-lubricate it with some light lub so that it is smoother and less friction. 7. 3mm screws for mounting Fan and Heating plate 8. UHU glue to assemble and seal the casings. 9. Couple of rubber bands to help in the assembling. 10. 64x28x2mm clear plastic (window size on casing is 60x25mm). If you do not want to print transparent PLA. The temperature obtained using the above components is about 40C ambient in the casing with 55C at the heating plate. Higher temperature can be obtained if you used a higher capacity heater and a stronger circulating fan, but please be aware that Tg (glass transition) of PLA is about 55C and PETG is about 80C. Again, please be informed that all risk and safety are on your own. I hold no responsiblity for it.
