Filament Joiner Jig

Filament Joiner Jig

I purchased one of these filament joiner / splicer tools from Amazon and you really need to have 5 hands to use it effectively without issues. So I created this jig to hold the filament joiner and a 37 mm diameter tea light candle to provide the source of heat. Using this jig is easy... place the candle in the bottom and light it. Put the joiner in the top of the jig with the filament fed through the holes. Now you can use both hands to control the movement of the filament into the ceramic form to perform the splicing operation. UPDATE: I have added another version that raises the filament joiner up by 20 mm to lessen the amount of heat from the candle. I have also added a countersunk screw hole to attach it to a board or a workbench. Also, you may want to trim an aluminum soda can to fit into the inside of the area where the candle goes to protect the plastic from melting.
