First Puzzle System (Montessori)

First Puzzle System (Montessori)

prusaprinters

This is a system designed to be used as first puzzle, mostly for babies/toddler ages 6 months to 2 years. The system is designed so that it can be extended in the future, or peaces mixed, re-ordered so it's more interesting and engaging for the child.

For now the following base shapes/inserts are available:

Circle

Rectangle

Triangle

For future it's planned to add more shapes, such as:

Star

Oval

Possible combinations for print:

For babies from 6 months start with a single puzzle. Print one base and one insert (circle is probably the easiest for them as there is no direction when inserting) and print the puzzle edges so that it's padded with nice round edges.

As your child grows you can print more bases/inserts, like rectangle or triangle and add them to existing peaces.

Multi colour prints are possible by changing filament on particular layer height (see picture), for both the base and the inserts. On the base this creates a contrasting colour between the shape and base. For insert this creates a contrast for the handle, so that the child recognises more easily where he or she should handle the piece.

Print instructions

No supports are needed for this print, however it is recommended to use 100% infill on inserts, so that they weight a bit more so they are easer to handle.

Please note that the tolerances on puzzle edge pieces is pretty low, less than .1mm - so make sure that your printer is not over/under extruding and that you don't have an "elephant foot" on the first layer - or use the appropriate compensation in your slicer.

Tolerances between the inserts and the base are far bigger - over 1.5mm, so the small ones can get an easier success on putting the peaces together.
