As part of their solar energy product line, the [fischertechnik](https://www.fischertechnik.de/en) construction toy system introduced low voltage DC [solar motors](https://ft-datenbank.de/tickets?fulltext=Solar+Micromotor) a couple of years ago. I never very much liked the limited connection possibilities they offer and their overall improvised appearance. That's why I designed my own. Not sure if they look better, but at least they offer more and better connection options. Additionally they do without the dumb cable. The type of motor used comes with varying product codes, but all include "300". You can often salvage them from old electronic parts like CD-Roms and printers, or you can order them online for less than 2€. I used [this variety labeled RO300-FT](https://www.ebay.de/itm/DC-1-5V-3V-6V-7-4V-6000RPM-RC300-DC-Motor-For-Solar-Power-Motor-Small-Round-Toy/122994575628) with a 2x10 mm shaft. Shorter shafts should work, but will decrease torque and axial precision. For the connectors you'll need two 6mm pieces of a 4x4mm brass rod. For drilling and assembly instructions refer to [this similar design](https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2940422). Use the "for plugs" .STLs for this. For those who want to skip this step and don't mind permanently attached cables (I hate them), I included a "for cable" variety of the .STLs.
