Side view picture of standard Fisker Karma, modified with Parallel Architecture. Powertrain layout is "taken" from a Mercedes SLS modified to be a inline 4 engine, placed in similar position as Fisker´s original. Compared with the original vehicle, benefits of Parallel Architecture would be improved aerodynamics, habitability and driver´s visibility. Parallel Architecture is defined by the placement of the engine in parallel with the driver's legs, below the central dashboard area. In order to maintain the minimum width, the inline engine must be installed longitudinally in the vehicle, with all the engine auxiliaries mounted in series relative to the engine. The base of the windshield is moved forward, so that the dashboard has sufficient length to allow access to the top of the engine, in order to perform maintenance operations on the cylinder heads area, by opening an access chamber on the top of the central dashboard.
