Flip Switch Game

Flip Switch is an original logic game that I created, to be played by people of all ages! The game is still being tested, so the rules may be tweaked at any time. If you print this game and play it, share your make so that others can see how it works! Let me know if you've found a new way to play or find any holes in the rules and I will gladly note the change. Flip Switch rules: Setup: Step 1: Print out 9 game pieces consisting of 3 tiles per shape, of 3 different shapes (example: 3 hearts, 3 squares, and 3 stars) Step 2: Place all of the pieces face-down so that you only see the blank backs and no shapes Step 3: Shuffle the pieces around and then arrange them in a 3x3 grid Step 4: Begin the game Step 5: Play until a winner is determined Gameplay: The point of the game is to get three of the same shape lined up in a row. The three tiles must be taking up an entire side, or can be from one corner diagonally to the opposite corner with a tile in the center. Once three tiles have been lined up, that player earns a point for the round and the shapes that were lined up are now “nullified” and cannot be used to score again in that round. A nullified shape can be switched as long as the other shape is not yet nullified. Once one of the players has nullified 2 shapes, they earn a point for that round. Winner is determined by number of rounds won. Turns consist of taking one of two actions: 1. The player may “flip” over a face-down tile 2. The player may “switch” the position of two adjacent tiles (adjacent meaning directly next to each other, not diagonally)* *When a player switches the position of two tiles, the player may not: - Switch the position of two of the same shape - Switch the position of two nullified shapes - Switch the position of any face-down tiles - Make the same position switch that the previous player made FAQ: Q: Can I switch shapes that have been nullified? A: Yes, you can switch a shape that is nullified as long as the other shape has not been nullified. Two different shapes that have been nullified can not switch positions with each other. Q: Can the game be played with a 4x4 grid? A: I’m sure it can be, but that version has not been play-tested and would need updated rules. Let me know if you’ve tried it so that I can update the rules! Q: How can I keep track of which shapes are nullified? A: Either remember them, mark it on a piece of paper, or print out the inverted version of the shapes and swap them out to indicate that a shape has been nullified! This is just the initial version and I will be designing more ways to play and nicer tiles in the future! Will take any constructive suggestions.
