Medical tool :To take a sample, we need a small caliber rod, with a certain flexibility, which is introduced into one nostril and must go to the posterior part of the nose, just before the throat (pharynx). This rod (swab) is surmounted by a small brush which makes it possible to dislodge cells from the wall of the pharynx, because it is in the cells and on the surface of these cells that we find the most virus. (see attached photos). Collecting a good specimen is crucial for the sensitivity of the test: not enough virus and the test may be false negative.
