History One of the greatest aircraft that Germany would produce would be the Fokker Dr. 1 Dreidecker (triplane). This aircraft would see a lot of service in late 1917 to early 1918 and would become legendary in the role for which it was designed: dogfighting. Strangely, despite its fame, only about 320 of these aircraft would be built while thousands of other types would be. Generally the best of the best pilots would end up in the Fokker Dr.1 and the most famous pilot of all (Manfred von Richthofen) would fly it until his death in April 1918. The Fokker Dr.1 was very maneuverable and could be quite deadly in the hands of a veteran pilot. Unfortunately, upper wing problems would cause a number of crashes early in its service but those problems would be fixed for the most part. Still, technology in the late war period was such that in less than half a year, the Fokker Dr.1 was phased out in favor of more advanced aircraft like the Fokker D.VII biplane.Price: $89.00 Date added: Aug 06, 2015Last update: Oct 21, 2015Product id: 55c3592fccff75b0688b4649
