"Tableau pliant / étagère d'appoint" Plenty of pictures here : http://flic.kr/s/aHsjvcr15A And a vid here : http://youtu.be/SoM2HjQwqPU That's one of the 4 finalist project of the Unlimited Design Contest 2011http://unlimiteddesigncontest.org/fr/product/tableau-pliant-%C3%A9tag%C3%A8re-dappoint It's a folding system, allowing to create structures, from the small shelve to the huge book-shelve (whether we use foam-core light cardboard or heavy cardboard with triple ondulation). Many variations are possible, just take care when altering the 2D plan cause any modifications will impact the 3D folded structure. The surface is optimized to avoid almost any wastes, and both states of the object (folded or not) are exploited : when folded it's a shelve, and when flat its eventually a poster or a painting (that's will be very practical for when you have to move) The grid-unit system allows to apply this concept to different scales. Just don't forget to to adjust the notch corresponding to the thickness of the material chosen. The example on the left filled with books and dvds was made in foamcore board, and can support a weight of 6kg with only 6-8 pins! Used since 2007 and still good :) Instructions All the designs are based on a grid system, thus you can scale the model to fit your material or any size you want (700x430mm in my case when I lasercutted the last versions). Just adjust the notch for material thickness. Lasercut Hang with some pins or small nails You can also made it by hand, that's how I made the first models, it's just a little longer. Start by scaling/tracing the grid on your material, then use the grid to trace the blueprint. Next, carefully cut the lines and the folding lines (I often cut a fold, in that case a piece of tape is a good fix). Caution, void attract things naturally, especially for empty shelves :) Files are named by Number Of Tabs (eventually framed) Dimension Of The Grid (number of squares) Dimension Of One Square In mm (scale as you want)
