UPDATE: if u do try to do this, becareful if u decide to sand on the plastic section of the key that has the transponder cause u can damage it. mine was doing great until i revisted it to try to shorten the key so an i sanded the top of the plastic piece flat an for some reason now it has to be held side ways at the ignition to get it to start everytime, with it in the case with the key its hit an miss an at times it works an others it want so ive got a appointment tomorrow to have a new key cut an programmed at a dealer ship, $50 for the key an $75 for the programming so $125, its just a bit more expensive than buying one of the programable keys on amazon that would still have to be cut so probably would cost just as much and ill still have my busted one for a back up but im still going to make another case that fits the new key just to keep from having to worry about the top being pulled loose on it like so many other of my ford keys have ended up. but i thought id update an let everyone know to very careful when sanding the piece with the transponder. so over the years ive owned quite a few different cars alot of camaros, trans ams and mustangs. out of all of these the ford key was always an issue if the car had an anti theft system due to the chip being imbedded in the plastic top section of the key an the metal key either breaks off flush with the plastic or just comes completely out of the black plastic part. if your lucky u didnt loose any of it an was able to keep it all together if not as long as u have the plastic piece and a door key that doesnt have the chip u can hold the plastic piece with the chip next to the door key an use it to start an drive the car. in the past i had always just kept them on a key ring together so they could be held in place when starting the car but now i own 3d printers an i just picked up a 2009 mustang gt an every issue that ever existed with the mustang still exist in these model of car, i had hoped they would have solved some of them by now but i figured out very quickly they hadn't. the key was the same as it had always been an they had broken the key off flush with the plastic section then taped the door lock and trunk key to the plastic part from the broken key to keep them together so first thing i did when i got home was pull that nasty mes apart an cleaned it up an made a quick fix in tinkercad an printed a case that would hold both the broken keys security chip which was the hold top of the key an the door lock key sandwiched together, i justed m2 bolts to bolt the cover on it an it is a bit bulky for a key but its better than having to tap them together. im going to try to figure out how much of the plastic i can cut away without damaging the chip inside to try to thin the case down some so if this is something your willing to attempt ur self u can just sand the case down to fit the size u need or if u manage to get it thinner than the original then let me know an i'll redo the model so its the height you need so it isnt so thick. a note for anyone who has to deal with this. the door key will only work if they have never been changed, ive seen a few that had the door locks changed so the door keys was not the same cut as the ignition key so if that is the case this might not work for you unless u managed to keep the metal part of the key once it broke or fell out, in that case u might be able to use this an use screws to secure the metal part to the case, if u cant do it with how it is made now let me know an i'll do what i can to make changes to it so that it will. hope this is helpful for someone else. ive seen alot of other fixes for the loop being broken off but nothing for the key its self being broken off so this is my fix for what i have so i hope its useful to someone else. if u use it an it fixes ur issue or u do attempt to remove material to make it small let me know how it goes an how much u was able to remove.
