Fragment of the bathing Aphrodite

Fragment of the bathing Aphrodite

myminifactory

The goddess Aphrodite is captured in the act of bathing; the statue can be reconstructed with her left arm stretching over her abdomen and right hand lightly touching her left shoulder. This fine statue is a Roman copy of a Greek original, perhaps in bronze, attributed to the sculptor Doidalsas of Bithynia (ca. mid-3rd Century BC). Of all the copies of the same type this is the most artistically successful. From the Hadrianic period (AD 117-138). More sculptures of this type can be found here.
