I designed and printed this frame to display the very first game I ever got for my Commodore 64, Christmas of 1987. I was 10 years old. I never really liked the game at the time, but I have such a fondness for my Commodore, that the very sight of this game brings a nostalgic smile to my face. I decided I needed to display it my home, so that I can smile every day! EA made several games at the time that used a similar flat case. As you can see its large, about a 1/4 inch thick and opens like a book. inside there is a pocket for the 5.25 inch floppy disk. If you have a game that you would like to display in a frame like this.... You Will Need, filament (obviously) 4...1/4 inch basswood sticks (approx. 8 7/8 inch long depending on the game) 2...panes of 1/16 inch or 3/32 inch picture frame glass (or acrylic). 8...small wood screws. these secure the corners to the wood so that the entire assembly doesn't come apart. tools: a screwdriver, a glass cutter (or have a glass shop cut and bevel the glass for you), a drill ( for pilot holes in wood). You will need something to fill in the inlay letters and symbols with color. I used non drying colored modelers clay from the local craft store, but this proved difficult as the clay tended to fill the porous print surface in places i didn't like. Ultimately i printed a cap to clean up the surface and cover the ugliness created by clay smudged into the pours of the print. If i were to make another frame i would simply print the color logo with my inkjet printer, and slide the photo paper under the cap to create the same effect. Print the corners laying on their sides, not on their back. If you look at the photo, the bottom corners are laying exactly as they were printed. I used minimal support, and got great results. Print the hanger on its back, logo up. you will need support, but cleanup is a breeze as its quite easy to get to. Print the cap Face down, no support. Printed on a Alunar m505 3d printer. Basically an Anet A8 as far as i can tell. Used PLA.
