Designed to add second shoulder buttons / triggers (known as L2 and R2 or ZL and ZR) in a similar position to many official console controllers, this requires users to replace two existing shell casing screws with longer screws which act as the pivot point for these triggers. A vented false cartridge is used to fill the vacant cartridge slot of the GBA case and is the part that is screwed onto the case solidly. The triggers which are designed to complement the GBA L and R shoulder buttons are retained by this false cartridge with a loose enough fit to be free to move. After trying many other switch mounting concepts, I have unusually fitted the clicky tactile switches upside down and fitted into the trigger rather than the shell, acting against the surface of the GBA shell instead of the trigger. This does mean a hole is needed in the GBA shell for the wires to pass through near to the hinge, but nothing is needed on the inside of the shell to robustly mount a tactile switch within. This may be suitable for the Freeplay Zero, and uses the FP letters in good faith as tribute to the brilliant firm who created this console having also shared these designs with Freeplay some time ago. Cartridge is vented to assist with cooling the Raspberry Pi heart of the console. Might be suitable for other GBA based projects.
