Freewing Moray replacement spinner

Freewing Moray replacement spinner

My Freewing Moray* spinner cracked after one too many crashes and I was not able to source a replacement so I decided to design and print one. I added some blades to the spinner backplane as I felt that it could do with a bit more cooling. The result is as shown here. I was initially concerned about balance and strength but I have run it without a prop at maximum revs and it has been fine with no signs of either vibration or any distortion due to the centrifugal force. I use two servo retaining screws to hold the dome to the backplane. Please be careful if you print one - the high speeds and high revs make this inherently dangerous and I cannot be held responsible for any injury or damage that may result from making or using one of these spinners. *If you are wondering what a Freewing Moray is then please click here http://www.rcairplanereviews.com/rc-airplane-reviews/237-freewingmorayreview.html - the photo of the model flying comes from this review. Print Settings Printer: Prusa Rafts: Doesn't Matter Supports: Yes Resolution: 0.1mm Infill: 100% Notes: I printed mine in PLA. I printed the spinner dome upside down (small end down) using a brim for adhesion. It worked perfectly. The backplane needs support while printing but I did not need support for the cone when printed like this. Please note that the combines STL file is not intended for printing - this is included only so that the assembled item can be viewed in ThingView.
