Friction experiment

Friction experiment

grabcad

Original project made with Autodesk Inventor 2014 as a Dynamic simulation. The action is due to the gravity force, but this happens by imposed rotating of the inclined. This experiment demonstrates that the friction depends only by the (same) friction coefficient (µ = 0.3). So, the same rectangular box made from the same material (steel), the same dimensions (50 x 25 x 12.5 mm) is set on its tree different faces as three different boxes. The plate with channels for boxes is slow rotated around the hinge axis with a speed of 2 degrees/second. You can watch how all the three boxes start moving and go down simultaneously to the down stop. This is certified by the picture with Output grapher diagram (Friction experiment - 1.jpg). Here are presented the speeds of all three boxes on the same graph. Note that in abscissa are seconds and the inclination is double (2 seconds mean 4 degrees inclination, for instance). You can observe that the three curves are superimposed and the differences between them are very small. The same reality can be observed too in the chart presented in the included Excel file (Friction experiment.xls). The chart is associated with the data, and you can see them by selecting the worksheets using their tabs at the bottom of the Excel image. As usual, if you work with Inventor you will find all the .iam and .ipt files so you can download them to enter Environments / Dynamic simulation and see for yourself what's happening. You will have all the settings at your will, so you can change everything. Enjoy!
