Frigidaire Dryer Timer Knob - KIP 2198

This is a replacement for the drying timer knob on some older Frigidaire combo washer-dryers. Part No. 1318733 - KIP 2198. Actual printed replacement seen on the far-left in the first photo. The actuation of the timer knob on these old dryers gets very stiff, and the weak original knob tends to fail by cracking along the shaft. This replacement has a much thicker shaft, about as thick as I could make it without hitting the screws under the knob. I measured the original part and did my best to model a replacement in SolidWorks that looks nearly identical. When printed in white and post-processed a bit, it looks like an original part to the untrained eye. After printing, color in the indent for the indicator line with a black or grey sharpie, or paint. This knob is printed in two separate parts which should be glued together (I used two-part epoxy cement). Make sure to connect the two parts with the correct alignment, so that the indicator line is perpendicular and centered to the arc of the hole for the metal shaft. If you look at the original part, you'll see what I mean. The original part uses a thin metal bracket as an interface between the plastic hole in the knob and the metal shaft on the dryer. IMO, this is one of many poor design choices that leads to failure. This replacement is designed to be used without that bracket, so make sure you remove it. The knob fits on snug but can still be easily removed if needed. Assuming your printer dimensions and flow are calibrated, you should be able to achieve a similar fit. Print the shaft (bottom part) with 0.2mm layer height, 4 perimeters, and 50 - 80% infill. This part needs to be strong. Print the knob (top part) with 0.1mm layer height, 3-4 perimeters, and 50% infill. I printed this part at 102% scale just to make sure the hex hole would be large enough for the glue + male end on the shaft. Seemed to work well, but I haven't tested printing at normal scale. Some post processing (sanding + clear coat) is highly recommended if you intend to print this in white, as dirt can and will get caught in the ridges of the layer lines and will show very clearly against the white plastic. I used matte clear-coat, but a semi-gloss or gloss clear-coat would have given it a finish closer to that of the original ABS knobs. Sorry for the default print orientation, you'll have to rotate the models. Print in the orientation shown in the photos.
