I printed the "HDD Best Rack-Adapter from 5.25" to 3.5"" by tibrol (https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3671684) to convert my old PC into a NAS-Server. To attach the drives to the rack adapter I used these rails by xcvccccc: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3285448

Everything fit very nicely but the drives ran too hot without a fan. So I designed a bracket to mount a 140 mm fan into the space of the four drive bezels. It fits snugly into the front panel of my case and it looks less DIY like that :-).

I put in holes for mounting the fan with heat inserts and M4 screws, but my 140 mm fan from bequiet! already has very good press fit and I did not need those. As a last step I put a dust screen in front of the fan.

This should fit into most cases with 4 5.25" bays, but I have also added the Fusion 360 file for this in case this does not fit into your case.

UPDATE 2022/3/20: Added an air guide to force the airflow from the fan through the HDD cage.

Print Settings

Printer Brand:

Prusa

Printer:

I3 MK3S

Rafts:

No

Supports:

Yes

Resolution:

0.2 mm

Infill:

15%

Filament: eSun PETG any

Notes:

Only the front part needs supports from the build plate at the bottom. I used the "snug" supports in PrusaSlicer which came off cleanly.

Category: DIY
