Front Loading Washing Machine Door Hook System

Front Loading Washing Machine Door Hook System

Front loading washing machines need to have the door left open to allow any remaining water in the door to evaporate. In some cases, doors can swing open too easily or be in the way. I designed a magnetic system that is designed to hold the door open a few inches. A magnet is used to attach the system to the cabinet around the door and when in use, there is a hook that connects to the door latch and holds the door open. The latch system is designed so that if someone accidentally hits the door, the latch will pop apart rather than break. This specific hook was designed to work with a Miele stackable washing machine. It may work for some other doors but it is very likely you will need to modify the hook system to work with doors from different companies. This was designed in SolidWorks. I am including the individual STLs for the three parts and also the SLDPRT file and STEP files. Note that this is sized for a disk magnet that is 1/8" thick and 3/4" in diameter. It can easily be modified for different size magnets.
