Front wing shim for Takuma foils

Front wing shim for Takuma foils

thingiverse

This is a shim that fits inside the front wing of Takuma foils. The shim fills the extra space, preventing the screws from coming loose and breaking. When the wing is shimmed properly the wing can be removed by wobbling it from side to side while pushing it on or pulling it off. See this video from Takoon for a demonstration - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lf-KsaZtOsE (I do the opposite, have the setup upside down and wobble the wing instead of the mast, but it should be the same). I use the 1mm shim which fits all of my wings, but I also provided a 0.6mm version. Both can be scaled in height to fit your particular setup. The shims are printed flat and need to be curved to fit. This can be done with boiling water (if the shims are printed in PLA), or by putting them into the front wing and inserting the fuselage. If the shim is sized correctly, there shouldn't be any significant movement if you rock the wing from side to side without the screws attached. I find that without the shim, the screws back out and front wing comes loose within an hour or riding, which makes the foil unstable and there are reports of the bolts snapping off after this happens. Even with the shims installed, I always check the bolts before each session. **List of Shims and Adapters** This is a list of various shims and adapters I've designed for foiling, most are available on Thingiverse, but a few are for sale. *Baseplate to Mast Angled Shim* - Adjusts the angle of the board to the mast. This does the same thing as a baseplate shim, but it goes inside the baseplate. [Axis 19mm version](https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:5425520) *Baseplate to Mast Flat Shim* - Fills the gap between the baseplate and the sides of the mast extrusion to make the system slighty more rigid. [Axis 19mm version](https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:5435184) *Surf Elementals Mast Adapter* - Adapter to use the more rigid 19mm Axis aluminum masts with Takuma foils. [Axis 19mm Mast to Takuma Fuselage version](https://www.facebook.com/commerce/products/mast-adapter-axis-19mm-mast-to-takuma-fuselage/4560337207403075) *Mast to Fuselage Angled Shim* - Adjusts the angle between the mast and the fuselage. It's similar in function to a baseplate shim, but it goes inside the fuselage. [Takuma version - aluminum](https://www.facebook.com/commerce/products/fuselage-shim-for-takuma-foils/5472914619399193) [Takuma version - printable](https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:5435703) *Front Foil Flat Shims* - Fills the gap in the front wing to fuselage joint. This should help with issues like the wing coming loose and bolts breaking. [Takuma version](https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:5443361) *Tail Foil Angled Shims* - Adjusts the stabilizer angle relative to the front foil and fuselage. This can be used to tune foot pressure.
