<p>I wanted a Smartthings controllable outlet for my treadmill but couldn't find any self-contained 20A-rated devices save for the Linear FS20Z-1. Unfortunately that product assumes that you'll be wiring it inside an electrical box so all the wires are exposed. I wanted something that I could plug-in inline between the 20A outlet and the treadmill so I designed my own housing for this relay.</p> <p>I ended up buying a 15A-to-20A converter cable that I cut in half. The one I bought was 12" but I wish I would've looked for something just a little longer as attaching all the thick wires together and screwing on the wire nut was a little difficult. Make sure the wires of the cable are 12AWG or they won't handle the 20A current! You'll also need to take out the two small screws that hold the top of the FS20Z-1 on; those will be used to keep the housing secured. I ended up cutting the existing FS20Z-1 wires short as there isn't a lot of room inside the box. There's just enough for all the wires, 4 wire nets and a bunch of zip ties. There are a lot of zip tie anchor points built-in to the housing to ensure the wires don't move around after it is all put together.</p> <p>I also included a model of the FS20Z-1 in case anyone wants to remix this for their own needs.
