I have a 12V DeWalt drill that uses these nice little Lithium Ion packs. So made a shoe to fit them to power the FT-817. To make the contacts take some #10 copper wire and flatten the end to fit in the battery. The shoe will fit tight but put some candle wax for lubricant and will slide on and off fine.
