FT-817 Powerpole + Charging Adaptor

This is yet another Power Pole adaptor tor the Yaesu FT-817(ND). It is derived from the design by Damon1974. The design has a few changes. The most obvious is that a socket for the standard charging/power supply plug is fitted in addition to the Power Poles. There are two versions:- Version 1 has the ends of the Power Poles protruding a little. This makes it easier to find the connectors. Version 2 has the housing for the Power Poles slightly extended but the coaxial power socket is set back a little. The reason for this is that the only socket I could find with the correct sizes would have meant that the tabs of the socket and the locating pins of the Power Poles would have to be in the same place meaning that the power socket could not be fitted. Personally I like version 1 but the other is there for anyone who is interested. The power socket was difficult to find and was finally obtained from Amazon (UK) with the description ‘sourcingmap 10 Pcs 3 Poles 4.0mm x 1.7mm DC Power Jack Socket PCB Mount Connector’. There were 10 connectors in the pack but probably the same thing can be found on eBay singly, Other small changes include an increase in the diameter of the counter bore hole for the screw to accommodate larger washers such as the type fitted to the original screw and the wall of the earth post mounting recess near the plug has been thickened slightly because it doesn’t seem to be thick enough to print correctly in most designs. The original hardware specified for the Damon1974 design should fit perfectly since the thickness through which the screw passes has not been altered. The overall depth has only been increased by only about 2.5mm which doesn’t present any problems. I printed this at 0.1mm with 90% infill but I also tried it at 0.2 with 15% infill. Both were acceptable although for some reason the Power Poles were easier to insert in the first one. The first one weighed 9 grams and the second 6 grams (both version 1). Edit 2nd June 2019 - In an email from the original designer of this adaptor SirJon he suggested that extra pictures should be added to show the wiring and it would be a good idea to have versions without the counter bore for the screw so that an earth tag could be fitted. Although the fitting with the original sunken screw will allow the radio to stand upright without the adaptor getting in the way in the version without the counter bore will probably allow the screw head to touch the surface that it is standing on dependent on the type of head and the number of washers etc. Unfortunately it’s not possible to reduce the thickness because of the plug/socket sizes. For the type that allows an earth connection a 20mm screw on its own is just a fraction too long but with an earth tag and washers it should be fine. If an 18mm x M3 screw is available that would be ideal. The new files and the pictures are now added and both have the word ‘Earth’ added to the file name to distinguish them.
