http://youtu.be/spcXJ6ALmOE Now considered finished unless I fix the offline cut in layer 3, noting there is no gap in model, its just annoying... Will add images of the final prints when finished. Update 6 Added hollow layer 4 back, with lid. Lids for top front and back face each other, so you can have a complete hollow brain case. Update 5. Beginning to look good with simple RGB leds, as I print piece by piece. Added Hollow Layer 4 Front stl as the translucent prints with lights inside look too good! Update 4. Got a good print of layer 2 front, by laying it on its back, so lips facing up. Support internally was much less than I expected, and it came out really well, all other orientations had faults in the gcode, or unprintable implications, such as single width skirt of support that just fails eventually. Shame I didnt cut the back parrallel, but it is managable to align close to the bed. Update 3. Finding printing the hollow layer 2 front difficult, trying one final orientation. Though frustrating I did not cut the back parrallel to the Y in the first place so that complicates things. Also added a hollow layer 3 front and lid, which should print far easier. Update 2. Added a hollow Chin piece, layer2Font and lid, because it seemed like the right thing to do! Bear in mind this is a work in progress, I have not tried to print it yet, so you may want to wait until I publish a success image or otherwise... Update 1. Warning, layer2front_fixed,stl had an unexpected internal void, the inside of the mouth, I have fixed this while playing with the model, and uploaded a new layer2front_fixed.stl This is a full size head model, to ensure I scale the next Halo helmet correctly to my head size. This is NOT my head, it is a generic model from http://grabcad.com/library/head-model I have sized it as close to my own head as I can, and will use that as a template to rescale the halo helmet to. I am also printing it, as it will be curious to have around, and is a good base for modular upgrades... I will add pictures as I print. Instructions Use 1/8th by 3/4 inch slotted tension pins for assembly. Print chin model, with the mouth facing up, I support issues implied in any other orientation, that proved to be unprintable. This gives a very interesting hex pattern from the in fill when lit from inside. Better than the eyes section which I printed in normal orientation and may of been more atheistic if also printed facing up. Print the "lids" in opaque plastic to prevent light bleed between layers.
