Galaxy Nexus simple Tripod Mount

Picture this: You're just getting ready to film your breakthrough documentary on Cholula Hot Sauce, but during your "research" you accidentally bathe your prized video camera in that very condiment. Your dreams, and your camera's electrical innards, seem short-circuited. But wait! Your Galaxy Nexus has a fine camera on it. Why not use that? Alas, there's no easy way to mount it to your tripod! You might find a mount on here, but then you have to go find a nut to thread it into your tripod, and thats annoying. Well, if you happen to have the same el-cheapo tripod that I got somewhere like 10 years ago, then you're in luck! This Thing is a basic tripod mount for the Galaxy Nexus. Its tapered just like the nexus, so slap it in your tripod, place the thin end of the nexus in the slot, and then just slide the phone towards the fat end until you're happy with how snug it is. It can fit pretty tight if you want it to! It certainly won't fall out. Its made to fit the tripod quick release I have, but I think most cheapie tripods still use the same setup. Don't have the same tripod? I Uploaded a special version just for you! Its got a hole for a hex nut in it so that you can put a 1/4-20 nut in it and it should work with any standard tripod! I haven't tested that yet, but will update when I can. (UPDATE: Works great!) Notably, this was designed for the US Verizon LTE version, which is thicker than the International GSM version. If someone tells me how thick the thing is in the middle and 20mm each direction from there, I can easily whip up a version for the GSM variety. Solidworks 2012 source files as well as IGES included, for maximum not having to edit STLs. Instructions Print, and engage in tripod mount. Slide phone in thin end first. The slot is tapered, so make sure you have it facing the right way. You may need to flip the phone over or rotate the mount 180 degrees in your tripod. I prefer it in the power-button down configuration. The other way the volume button gets in the way. UPDATE: I added a chamfer on the outside edge on one side, to indicate how the taper goes. The chamfer is like an arrow, pointing towards the fat end of the phone (the direction you should slide it). I also made the taper less, as there was a bit of error with my previous version. This one should fit really well! (UPDATE2: It doesn't fit better. I think my printer has some belt slack that is causing the very slight angle to get muted some. I will try printing at 45 degrees to force both motors to be moving more during the taper and see if that helps. Or perhaps I mucked up the angle. It still works pretty darn well though) I also added files that now will fit a 1/4-20 hex nut (7/16" wide) so this can be used with any standard tripod if you don't have the same one as me. I added a bit of extra slop for the nut so that if your printer makes holes too small, you won't have to chisel out a hex shaped hole. That does mean you may want to glue the nut in after, or adjust the file to your liking of course! The solidworks file has two configurations, one with the hex hole and one without.
