Game Boy Advance SP Pocket Shell

Game Boy Advance SP Pocket Shell

I wanted a shell for my Gameboy Advance SP that didn't have a hinge. Inspired by the Gameboy Pocket, I designed the GPA SP Pocket Shell. This shell is built around all original hardware, so no electronic mods are required. However, I wanted to replace some of the parts in my GPA SP which led the design to be a bit odd:

I do not like the standard tri-wing screws found in Nintendo products and started to strip them with repeated use, so in my build I purchased replacement Philips head screws.

I also ordered replacement button membranes, but they didn't fit in the shell properly even though the OEM ones fit just fine. So I would recommend original button membranes.

Lastly, I wanted a glass screen lens, and it was slightly different than the original (this is why there are TWO shell front parts). On a stock GBA SP the screen is slightly off centered, so If you have an original screen lens, use the off centered file. However, if you get a new screen lens, check to see if it is centered, and if so use the centered front shell file.

The button extenders are REQUIRED. The buttons and shell will not work without them.

I do not have a build tutorial, but if that is something you want let me know and I can work on making one.

I am aware that there is no light diffuser for the power LEDs. In my prototype I glued a small piece of natural/clear PLA in the hole and that worked well, but I no longer have that PLA so I cannot currently design one.

I have also decided to make this a CC Non-commercial design. I have spent many hours designing and printing dozens of variations to get this shell functional. If you would like a shell but do not have access to a 3D printer, contact me so I can make one for you. If you love the design and feel encouraged to, I accept tips through PayPal, but do not feel obligated to give.

https://www.paypal.com/paypalme/brettkpennington

My email: Brett3DP@gmail.com
