Story

This is my first 3D model made from scratch. I went through eight iterations and ended up with this final design. As you can see from the images, I had a twenty years old GameBoy Game Cartridge Case (Pokemon Red inside) that I wanted to try and replicate. I think I did a passable job for my first model but am open to any feedback. I can share the Blender file if anyone is interested in remixing the model for their own use.

Print Settings

I just got my first 3D printer a couple of weeks ago. It is a Creality Ender 3 V2. I used the Ultimaker Cura Slicer to slice the model. I printed the entire model with the basic settings that came out of the box, but here are some of the settings I changed/used:

Resolution: 0.2MM (Standard Quality)

Infill: 60%

Support: Required for Lid only (Turn supports on if you are printing the lid and base together)

Material: PLA (semi-transparent white) - I recommend trying a fully transparent PLA and am thinking of trying a fully transparent PETG myself as I have yet to use PETG and would like to test it.

After Printed

Once the base and the lid have been completed, you will simply need to connect the hinges together. The clasp will hold solidly once closed. It will loosen over time, but even after opening and closing it over a hundred times I found it will still hold very well.

To open it, I grab the side of the base and then pull up on the front sides of the lid.

I even dropped the case by accident on the metal foot of my standing desk from about four feet and no damage occurred to the game that was inside, or the case itself.

It may require some touch ups once printed, especially the front lid square-circle indent.
