Another way to keep extra spools out of landfills is by using this holder. It's designed to work perfectly with Hatchbox spools, which are approximately 68mm wide on the outside and have a diameter of 200mm. This size will also accommodate many other brands that are close in width, as long as they're within plus or minus 5 mm. I tested it with a no-name brand spool that was about 64mm wide, and it worked just fine. The holder is flexible enough to fit different-sized spools without any issues. To assemble the holder, you'll need #6 wood screws. Drill matching holes through both parts of the spool and attach them using these screws. The hole on the back side, which is located at the seam where the two parts meet, is where you should place the top screw for wall mounting. Make sure to enlarge the front hole so that a driver can fit through it. Once assembled, simply load the holder with your spool in the correct orientation and attach it to the wall using screws. No additional supports are needed. I printed my holder using PETG filament with two perimeters and 15% triangular infill, which worked out fine for me. However, if you're using PLA, you may want to increase the thickness of your prints slightly. My print used about 90g of filament.
