What is a finial?

Finial : A sculptured ornament, often in the shape of a leaf or flower, at the top of a gable, pinnacle, or similar structure.

Note: This will be one of several finial designs I am making.

Many thanks to Levi Sitts for the gargoyle posting I based this on.

This finial is designed to be mounted on the end of a ¼"-20 thread (or M6-1), and to fit over a nut on that thread (picture a bolt projecting upward, held on by a nut - the finial screws onto the bolt end - see photos). The finial has an internal cylindrical opening which needs to be tapped to fit the thread you are using.

Print Instructions

Since I will be using this outdoors, I printed in PETG. Use the gcode or 3mf files provided to print in PETG. Otherwise :

perimeters = 2

5% rectilinear infill

Note that the print requires supports under the jaw and wings (see photos). I also used a modifier to add perimeters where the cylindrical thread will be tapped.

CAD

I used TinkerCAD to modify the original gargoyle STL I based this on. The provided STL is equivalent to the TinkerCAD file.
