Garmin Edge computer compatible out-front handlebar mount for 34mm handlebars

Print Settings

Printer Brand:

Creality

Printer:

Ender 3

Rafts:

No

Supports:

Yes

Resolution:

0.16mm

Infill:

30%

Filament: Spectrum ASA275 black

I have printed it from ASA275 and it works beautifully: it is flexible enough for mounting on the handlebar and the DHT of ASA is around 80C. I assume PETG might also work, that is also flexible and probably heat-tolerant enough. ABS might also work, albeit I have no personal experience with that.

How I Designed This

Introduction

This mount was inspired by the Zephyr mount and reuses the the Out Front Replacement Garmin Insert. Note, that arm design is my own, not a remix and it has significant differences w.r.t. the Zephyr:

It uses a replaceable mount insert, to be mounted with M3 screws and heat-set inserts

It has a different shape

It is not hollow, but it leaves the choice of wall-thickness and infill to the user via the usual means (slicer settings).

CAUTION

DO NOT PRINT this from PLA, that WILL eventually FAIL. Either it will break during mounting it onto the handlebar (due PLA's rigidity), or it will fail during the first hot sunny day when the arm is exposed to prolonged sunshine (PLA's DHT temperature is just 55C)

BOM

My design requires...

...either a self printed mounting bracket, such as Out Front Replacement Garmin Insert, or a factory made Garmin quarter-turn insert. I replicated the STL of the Replacement Garmin Insert here, but that is NOT my work. Kudos for JAltham for that.

Two M3 heat-set inserts (the arm-holes are dimensioned for Ruthex heatset inserts)

Some M3 screws

-- two (2) flat head M3 6mm screws to mount the slot-insert onto the arm via the heat-set inserts * one (1) 10..12mm long M3 screw with corresponding nut (I've used SHCS, i.e., a socket-head screw) for the handlebar clamp

Category: Sport & Outdoors
