Geocache Fungus

Geocache Fungus

Hey! Part of my Geocaching series of mushroom/fungi cache containers. This one is an Aseroe rubra, or starfish fungus. Designed in Tinkercad. I printed this 100mm high and 90mm across at the top. The space inside is approx. 70mm x 22mm which is big enough for a medium sized logbook and a pen. Pictured is a 60mm x 250mm waterproof logbook. There are 2 variations in the files, 1 base/spike and an OBJ version of the pictured fungus. I printed the fungus upright with a raft and line supports with a print time of 9 hours. You could print upside down for a faster print (6 hours) but I wanted a cleaner finish on the top with supports underneath the 'tentacles' so went for the longer print time. The base/spike was printed upright (spike facing down) so that the cap remained clean. I used a raft, line supports and 100% fill. Print time was 1hr 20 mins. You can remove the spike in your Slicer program if you don't want it there. Printed on a Voxelab Aquila. 0.2mm resolution, 200c extruder, 60c bed, generic gold PLA filament (which gives a gold/tan sort of neutral colour, a good base for painting). Finishing: There was some minor stringing on the tips of the tentacles and some residue from the supports which I decided to leave on and paint over for extra texture. Finish is acrylic paint, which I put on quite thick for a textured finish, and a top coat of weatherproof stain/varnish. Byee o/
