Geodesic Sphere Lamp Shade

Geodesic Sphere Lamp Shade

cults3d

The inspiration for 'The Geodesic Sphere' lamp shade stems from the ancient Greeks' love of geometry. Although it isn't strictly a Platonic Solid it feels like a continuation of this family of 3D shapes. This 3D printed lamp shade is huge! A sphere of 40cm in diameter, it will become a feature of even very large rooms. It is made up of 17 printed components, 2 Pentagons, 5 Diamonds and 10 Hexagons [see accompanying build instructions for more details on assembly and components]. The design takes advantage of the 3D print process to create large, strong hollow parts that weigh a lot less than you would think [Assembled the Sphere is less than 900g], therefore it is safe to hang on ceiling lamp wire without reinforcement. Ours has been hanging for over a year and has survived a mild earthquake! This product has been designed for an E27 lampholder [40mm diameter] if you can't find one of those let us know and we can supply you with an adapter plate/alter the design. We have tested this product for over a year with a 15W light bulb and there has been no deformation of the PLA. If you use PLA we wouldn't recommend going much higher than this. Printed with Satin Shine + White PLA [Real Filament] To print this design we used an Ultimaker 2+ 3D printer with a 0.6 mm nozzle [You can also use a 0.4mm or 0.8mm]. Dimensions for Each Component Gd Upper Pentagon: 200mm x 191mm x 22mm Gd Lower Pentagon: 200mm x 191mm x 35mm Gd Hexagon: 210mm x 205mm x 42mm Gd Diamond: 174mm x 119mm x 15mm We would love to see your prints!!
