The Ghost is the first modular rocket system developed by Nautilus Aerospace. It uses threaded interconnects so you can change or replace parts as needed. All parts can be printed on a 100mm build plate in about five hours or less. It supports 13mm x 45mm (tiny), 18mm x 70mm (standard) and 24mm x 70mm (large) rocket motors like those offered by Estes like the 1/4A, 1/2A, A, B, C and D classes of motors. It also supports the use of a parachute-based recovery system and fits on 1/8" (3.5mm) launch rods. This is mostly a thought experiment looking into what can be achieved with 3D printed rockets. Most of these parts have been tested and do work but obviously selection of the wrong motor could cause among other things: failure to leave the pad, failure to deploy the parachute at the right time, etc. The test models I've flown on the A10-3T motor weighed around 64-75g so it hit the dirt before the chute could even deploy. As of this writing it is known that the heat of the rocket motor will shrink the PLA-based holder in the motor section enough to make it difficult to remove and replace. These sorts of issues are why the rocket is modular. If the motor section becomes unusable just print a new one and you're flying again. I'm looking into ways to alleviate this problem and others. This rocket system requires the use of no hand tools or glue to assemble and fly. It does not come with a parachute or a shock chord which will have to be made or purchased separately. The parachute bay has enough room for one of Estes' replacement 12-inch parachutes which lock to the parachute bay along with the shock chord with the use of the parachute bay cap. Some parts have not been tested yet but should work. Let me know if you have any trouble. I'm planning to generate a few more parts in the future to accommodate things like larger parachutes, larger motors, different nose cones and fin configurations, etc. The threaded connections aren't the sturdiest in the world. Hard landing, overuse or over-tightening them will shorten their lifespan considerably. This model rocket system is purely experimental and comes with no warranty and I am not liable for injury, fires or other damages cause by the use or misuse of this system. Rockets are not toys but they can be sharp. Don't throw them at people, especially your baby sister. Wear eye protection when launching. Aim away from face.
