Gilt bronze statuette of Sakyamuni Buddha seated on a lotus throne. The gesture (mudra) of the right hand of the Buddha suggests he is preaching the Buddhist law. H. 68 centimeters (base included). Dated late Tang or Five Dynasties (10th century). Excavated from the crypt of the Thunder Peak Pagoda (Leifengta) in Hangzhou, China. Now exhibited at the Zhejiang Provincial Museum Gushan Branch in the same city.
