We have a large glass brick window in our garage that is the first thing trick-or-treaters see as they walk up to our house. I wanted to do something with it for Halloween this year to make the house a little more festive. I remembered that I have some translucent green filament and immediate thought of glowing eyes.

To make a silhouette with translucent eyes I opted for a simple color change at layer between layers 3 and 4. I figure 0.6mm is enough translucent material to be solid but also plenty thin to let maximum light through.

This cat is pretty big at about 207mm wide and 360mm tall. To fit it on the MK3s 210mm bed I needed to split it in half. It is split at an angle and keyed to make lining everything up and gluing as easy as possible with such a thin print. The whole think is only 2mm thick so you won't need much glue.

Print settings

0.2mm layer height

Color change on the top half after the 3rd layer (top half only)

5 bottom layers and 5 top layers

it's a solid 2mm thick sheet

Assembly

Note: Take care with the top half of the cat until it's all glued together. The head and the tail are only joined by the whiskers until then. I recommend epoxy for gluing because superglue fumes will make a white mess.

Here's how I glued it together.

I placed it face down and used painters tape on the back side to hold the pieces together tightly

then flipped it over face up.

I used the tape as a hinge to give me good access the angled face.

I added the glue to the slope on the top piece.

I set it on a flat surface, face up, and left it to dry

Tip: A weight on the joint will help the halve keep tight contact. Just make sure you don't glue your weight to the print.

Optionally remove the tape from the back after the glue is dry.

Attach to the window with poster putty or removable double sided tape.

Filaments Pictured

Printed Solid Jesse PLA in "Green Ice"

Printed Solid Jesse PLA in Black
