<p>I came across an effort of George W. Hart at: <a href="http://www.georgehart.com/puzzles/goldberg-puzzle.html">http://www.georgehart.com/puzzles/goldberg-puzzle.html</a></p> <p>The orientation of the puzzle pieces he shared on his page are not well suited for FDM printers though so I tried to make it more FDM printer friendly.</p> <p>I did this my using Cura to separate one of the pieces into its own STL file using the Mesh Tools plugin (nice tool).</p> <p>I then used the following (awesome) online utility to convert the stl into something compatible with OpenSCAD. <a href="https://raviriley.github.io/STL-to-OpenSCAD-Converter/">https://raviriley.github.io/STL-to-OpenSCAD-Converter/</a></p> <p>I used OpenSCAD's ability to cast a shadow with projection and linear_extrude functions.</p> <p>I scaled the new STL with its shadow in Fusion360 and filled in the shadow's holes to make it adhere to the bed better and make long lines to print.</p> <p>Could this have been done with a large brim instead?... Maybe, but I think this is probably more efficient. I included a stl file without the built in projection as well for reference.</p> <p>This print does require support (I used 60%). It took me just under an hour to print one piece at 0.2mm layer height and 12 identical pieces are needed. I printed six so far and they fit nicely together once the support is carefully separated (I used the bed scraper to apply leverage under each arm to separate the support and worked in toward the middle).</p> <p>At this scale, the completed puzzle is approximately the size of a baseball.
