Golden Wave Pendulums

Golden Wave Pendulums

grabcad

Original project made with Autodesk Inventor 2014 as a Dynamic Simulation. Besides the gravity force, the action is due to a imposed motion applied to the Escapement Cylinder - 1.67 rot/min (10 deg/s). The simulation does not include any friction. The restitution is 1 (maximum) at the contact between weights. Since it cost me nothing, I made the pendulum weights from gold... Massive gold! Among the other influences, this means a mass of 835 grams, instead of 340 grams for steel, or 367 grams for brass. The Escapement Cylinder rotates and frees successively the „Pendulum L” to oscillate. A couple of pictures emphasize the construction of the Escapement Cylinder and the various gaps which produce the successively freeing of pendulums. At the beginning we can see that all the „Pendulum L” take contact with the Escapement Cylinder and the rest of movement is obvious. Everything is governed by the rules of Dynamics, but for us the movement seems to be random. If you use Inventor, you have to download all the files in a single directory, then open the .iam file with Inventor 2014, 2015..., enter Environments/Dynamic Simulation and click on Play button. Instead of 2000 images you can apply 1000 images if you have to wait too much for the simulation. Enjoy!
